Innovation is about thinking about value, and how your organization creates it.
To us, innovation is about bringing continuous improvement to existing services, not necessarily creating new ones. The firm focuses on three focal points of improvement: how long it takes the firm to do the work, How well is it done and delivered Was there transparency and certainty to the process?
These innovations add value to the services we offer, and we never have to think of innovation as a ‘thing to be done because we are without even knowing, we are innovating every day. how long does it take for a lawyer to do their work? Is that work even useful anymore? advice delayed is advice not given, the complexity of the advice: is the advice too long, too complex and a hassle, and not help to comprehend? Will figure out how to follow the advice actually take more time and work for the client to use the work product, the client received the service, and paid for it, can they gauge the value of the service they received or the price they paid? Corporate legal services remain expensive, complex and confusing Predictability is to have rules and calculable probabilities of achieving one of a set of known outcomes. The participants can weigh the odds and act accordingly
the journey must begin with the voice of the client. If our client wants an easier-to-use work product, lawyers should utilize design-thinking principles to develop plain-language tools that empower non-lawyers to be sophisticated consumers of legal advice.
Food for thought Consider giving your client a flowchart rather than a memo. Or a one-page summary with the key terms. If your client wants cheaper legal services, the challenge for their lawyer is to abandon the billable hour and replace it with technology-enabled solutions that are still sold at a profitable price. In the end, innovation is about re-imagining processes to generate value and value is about listening to clients and focusing lawyers’ efforts on clients’ demands rather than the lawyers’ skills.
